I have barely used Linux outside of first getting started with a Raspberry Pi (like you!) and then some messing around with MX Linux/live boot USB drives (I don't think I ever installed Ventoy, but I have used Tails), servers, and VMs.
But I really love KDE Plasma! (And other software by KDE, like Kdenlive and Krita) The animations and huge amount of options are completely wonderful.
From most of what I've read online, a good distro pick is Fedora (atomic?) or a derivative, like Ultramarine Linux, Bazzite, or Nobara Linux. I thought to mention that after seeing that Ubuntu and its Snaps were causing a poor experience.
I think the latest version of Discord on Linux now supports screensharing with Wayland! I have not checked myself, but I recall watching a video or reading about it. Sticking with Vesktop is probably a good idea though; I use the same program on my laptop running Windows 11.
After reading an article on Microsoft's AI Recall feature, I thought it actually sounded like a great idea (as someone with ADHD 🗿) because the ability to search for anything you've seen digitally would probably be wonderful! I wonder how it could be implemented for Linux. (OpenRecall hasn't been updated for months!)
I'm glad to somehow gotten around the ugly OneDrive ramming its head upon Windows users. I disabled/uninstalled it when setting up my device, so I didn't lose any files! I've read horror stories from other people who weren't so lucky though...
In conclusion, I'd like to say that your blog post was a great read!
I thought to myself months ago, 'wow I should close all my tabs, finish editing & rendering some videos, backup my files and then install a linux distro with a KDE desktop, but never did. Now that I might be setting up a NAS server, maybe that could happen sooner than later!
(I need to setup a local git server under Forgejo so I can save version history of my Obsidian vault that's synced with Syncthing between my phone, server, and laptop. I accidentally copied and never pasted some todo list items, and I might never get them back! Or I could forget them, as they're kind of stuck in my memory: a video about Scratch... a video on the story of how I beat a streamer at a game he hadn't played for 4 years, after sending a link to https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy even though I had never used it - only seen or heard of it.)
This has been my biweekly/monthly forum post with many external links.
